Children / Youth

St. Anskar’s has a wonderful nursery for infants through age 2. The nursery is open during the regular Sunday worship service. This gives parents a chance to fully participate in worship and their children the opportunity to interact with toys and games that they will encounter as they learn about their faith in later years.
Changing Station
The changing station for infants is located in the parish nursery. Diapers, wipes, and other material are available. Parents are welcome to use the facilities whenever necessary.

Children's Chapel
For children age 3 and older who have a difficult time sitting in the pew we offer children’s chapel which begins when our worship service begins. Children meet in atrium room just before the service. Here, children experience a bible story similar to the one their parents will hear in church that Sunday and learn about that message in an interactive way. After their time together, children join their parents for the communion portion of our service.

Children's Sunday School

After the service, and a few minutes of social time during our coffee hour, children age 3 and older have a chance to go to Sunday School while parents have a chance to join us for an Adult Forum. Sunday School is the church’s Sunday morning children’s education program which runs from September through May. Our curriculum is Bible based and provides a foundation in the Christian faith for children aged preschool through 8th grade.  We believe children will think Sunday School is a great experience as our programs include a loving learning environment, songs, crafts, storytelling, and hands-on learning that is age-appropriate.  Our goal is to provide an exciting framework for Christian discovery. Classrooms are just off the parish hall. Please see an usher or one of the teachers to point you in the right direction.

Youth Programs

Youth age 8th grade and older are encouraged to join us in the adult forum. Occasionally topics are geared to the type of social pressures and questions youth face. Additionally, our youth, and several other Episcopal Churches belong to a local Waukesha County Episcopal Youth Group which meets every other Sunday at varying locations for combined programs such as the outreach activities you see pictured here. There are also other programs youth can plug into through our diocese which offer them a real opportunity to encounter their faith in a dramatic way. See the below for more information.

Youth in the Seventh or Eighth grade are encouraged to participate in a program preparing them for Confirmation. Confirmation is a ceremony where youth are able to make a mature profession of their faith before the congregation and receive the sacrament by the laying on of hands by the bishop.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings is a special weekend put together for youth in grades 6-8, to help you grow in love of yourself, others and Jesus Christ. During our time together we learn more about ourselves, each other and God in many ways.  We hear talks and have discussions on topics like Self, Friends, Parents, Siblings, School and Church.  We play games, do skits, sing, laugh, share and worship together.

You will learn to grow while having the time of your life. You are welcomed to attend New Beginnings as often as you like.

The team who leads the weekend is composed of youth who have previously attended New Beginnings or Happening (a Sr. High Youth Event), and adults lead the weekend.  The weekend runs from 9:00 am Saturday to 3:00 pm Sunday.

Camp Webb

Camp Webb is an outdoor ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee.  Everyone who comes to Camp Webb is given the opportunity to learn more about themselves and others, to discover more about the Episcopal Church, to develop a greater spiritual awareness, and to encounter Christ through living and learning in God's creation.  Campers will learn new skills, make new friends, create lasting memories and explore who they are and who God is in their lives.

Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers for teenagers with the help of clergy and lay adult leadership. The purpose of the Happening is to be one of the instruments within the Anglican Tradition to renew the Christian Church in the power of the Holy Spirit, in order that the Church may respond more readily to its call to spread the Kingdom of God throughout the world.  Happening seeks to achieve this purpose by bringing young persons and adults to a fuller personal knowledge of and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to a deeper level of commitment and apostleship.
